Auschwitz. The Depersonalization of Murder
A standalone thematic option on the Museum grounds, with its duration and detailed programme tailored to the group.
A standard or study visit focused on a selected subject
How did the killing of thousands of people become a bureaucratic procedure? At Auschwitz, death was part of an organized system in which a person gradually ceased to be perceived as an individual, becoming instead an entry in the bookkeeping of extermination.
During this thematic tour, we examine the mechanisms that made mass murder possible: identification, deportation, selection, registration, and the organization of the extermination process. We also explore the role of language, administration, infrastructure, and the actions of the many people who made killing on a mass scale possible.
It is a story of how the dehumanization of the victims and the stripping away of their identity and individuality became elements of a system of mass murder.
